ABOUT TYR’S METRO

Concept art that inspires our Northport build.

The METRO Story

There was once a vision, held by the Noveans of Tyr, of a place where many could live in a realistic cityscape. A place where, instead of isolated towers rising from pristine wilderness every kilometre, bustling streets ran between the working spaces of players in a living, breathing, metropolis. Deep in the Alioth desert, the seeds of this place were sown, aspirations of greatness ready to be realised, until… the universe went dark!

The original Metro was never to be. But the vision continued, and now had a new hope that it could even be something more central and convenient, including more Noveans and building to new heights. The members of Tyr came together when they left the Arkship and founded Metro anew, just east of the most popular market district, between two picturesque lakes.

The first buildings to rise were scattered across the area. The original Tyr factory, built by Anomalous, churned out elements and voxels day and night to facilitate the project, and was quickly augmented by other factories. Oreblocks established their honeycomb operation nearby to supply Metro’s growing hunger, and, in the centre of the lake, The Dome rose again! Plans were developed for a series of highways and districts and, before long, Tor himself broke ground in what would become Northport, where the original Metro Map still stands.

It is early days, but Metro continues to emerge from the forests of equatorial Alioth. Be part of this story!

The METRO Vision

Metro is an urban metropolis a stone’s-throw from Market 6 on Alioth, operated by the Tyr Expeditionary Group. The vision that the org has for Metro is for it to be a “living city”, where Noveans from all walks of life are able to establish factories and businesses, activities and residences alongside others who they can interact with daily. The aim is for everything in Metro to have a purpose and a place, contributing to the fabric of the city and building a social and economic hub for all. Whether you want to sell ship designs in a place that people will flock to, manage your factory in a location close to market, or drive racing constructs fast down urban streets, Metro is a place you can call home.

The METRO Style

Metro is being built within a style known within Tyr as “cyberpunk eclectic”. If you’ve seen Bladerunner, Ghost in the Shell or The Fifth Element, or played Cyberpunk 2077, you know what this means. The style is a mixture of decaying old and dazzlingly new, where brilliantly coloured neon overlays repurposed brownstone apartment buildings, and the influences of a thousand different cultures are forced into new and exciting forms. It can be both claustrophobic and liberating, a style within which builders can express themselves endlessly, whether they are building artificially intelligent taxis, or the factory they’re constructed in. If you join Metro, we want you to express yourself in your build, and create something truly interesting.

Racing, Events and Community

At the heart of Metro is the desire to build a better community. DU Racing is right at the heart of Tyr, and AngryDad’s Dome was one of the first constructs to rise in the area, so Friday Night Racing will be a staple of Metro’s event scene. But we hope that others will see Metro as a place to hold big events and gatherings, and the Tyr team is keen to work with anyone to bring life to the streets of the city, whether it is one off, or on an ongoing basis.

A City with a Lot to Offer

Metro is in its infancy at the moment, but we are looking for people who want to come on board and help to build a little slice. You can VR to the Tyr METRO Northport surrogate to see the current map of the city, and you can contact Tyr to express interest in joining. All sizes of cores will eventually be available, to own or to rent, at very reasonable prices (free rent for the first three months, with rates to be determined at very reasonable prices once the economy stabilises). Some of the benefits to joining will include:

  • Access to the community that is being built around Metro, already large and growing daily.
  • Access to shared voxel libraries.
  • Access to refining services and containers within easy reach of Market 6.
  • A range of habitation options to suit you, including:
    • Microshops (XS Core) and Shops (S core) along a shared high street
    • M core neighborhoods
    • L core HQ spaces near the Metro cultural centre
    • A range of residences, including condos and beach-houses
    • Dedicated showroom spaces for builders, some at street level and others within the Metro Megatower

Metro Rules

Like any successful community, Metro only survives on the good faith of its community members. The Rules are designed first and foremost to make living in Metro a pleasant experience for all. Please make sure you are aware of the Rules and are acting in accordance at all times.

Rule 1: Be kind.

  • The most important rule is to understand that everyone in Metro is there to have a good time. If everyone follows Rule 1, then most of the following rules are not needed.

Rule 2: No trolling, griefing or scamming.

  • Metro is not a place where market or dispenser scams are welcome. It is also not a place where residents should be trying to prey upon or deliberately upset other residents or visitors. Trolling (taking actions designed to deliberately upset another), griefing (taking actions to inhibit normal play of others) or scamming (the use of misleading or unfair techniques to profit from others) are not welcome in Metro and will result in warnings or eviction, as well as the removal of offending constructs.

Rule 3: Use the appropriate district.

  • Each Metro district has been set up for a specific purpose in order to ease navigation and server loads. If you are building in a district that is not specifically for industry, then you cannot include industry in your build. Make sure you are aware of the appropriate uses of the district you are building in and staying mostly within the boundaries of this purpose. Always discuss possible overlap with a Tyr Metro official.

Rule 4: Stay in style.

  • The Metro style of “cyberpunk eclectic” provides a very wide range of possibilities for build styles, but it is still a specific style. Try to build within this vision and, if you are unsure, discuss with a Tyr Metro official first.

Rule 5: Joint access.

  • For Metro to work, there has to be authority and appropriate responsibility, which means that a Tyr Metro Executive must have rights to all static constructs built within the city. Most constructs will be owned by the Tyr Expeditionary Group with rights provided to tenants. However, where this is not the case, construct owners will be provided with the name of a Tyr Metro Executive who must be included in an RDMS policy with all available rights. Failing to do so, or revoking these rights, are grounds for eviction. Tyr Executives are trusted individuals and will not change or remove constructs without discussion with the owner.

Rule 6: Maintain road access.

  • Roads are an important part of the city. All large core constructs, and some smaller constructs, must set aside room to incorporate roads that connect to the wider city grid and allow access both to, and through, the core. Roads may change over time and, where necessary, residents may be asked to modify a construct to allow for a new road configuration. This is particularly important during the early stages of city construction as roadways may be subject to change depending on what works.

Rule 7: Limit your screens and containers

  • At this stage there are no hard rules about the number of screens and containers you may have in your build, and our style works with lots of colourful screens around. However, it is possible that screens or large+ containers may cause an undesirable load on the server that may disrupt city activities. Limit your screens to reasonable levels and be aware that limits on screens may be implemented in future. Take advantage of the shared storage depot where you can have additional space.

Grievances, Citation, Sanction and Eviction

  • If a resident witnesses the transgression of a rule they can bring it to the attention of a Tyr Metro official by filing a Grievance.
  • Grievances will be reviewed by at least one Tyr Metro official and acted upon in one of the following ways:
    • Small transgressions or first-time offences will attract a Citation. This is a warning to remove any offending constructs or materials, and desist from behaviour that is deemed as counter to one or more rules. Failure to act on the Citation (noting that ‘action’ may require desisting from a particular action) will result in an escalation of the issue.
    • Larger transgressions, or a failure to act upon a Citation, may be acted upon by a Tyr Executive by a Sanction. A Sanction is a consequence deemed to be of sufficient strength to rectify any effect upon other residents and/or limit the capacity for rule-breaking behaviour to continue. A Sanctioned resident is on notice that Eviction will occur should they not immediately change their behaviour.
    • Where a Citation or Sanction has failed to have the required effect, or in the case of a serious breach of the rules, a resident may be subject to Eviction. An Evicted resident is no longer authorised to maintain a construct in Metro. They will be removed from the RDMS of any Tyr owned constructs and, if they own constructs within the city limits, will find them requisitioned until they are removed or become the property of Tyr.
    • In the case that a majority of city residents (a Quorum) are in favour of Eviction of a resident, this will also be grounds for Eviction.

We look forward to seeing you in the METRO.
